It seems FOREVER since I’ve been in Blogland, I do hope you are all fighting fit and at one with the world. While I’ve been missing I have been ever sooo busy, The Cottage On The Green renovations have been moving apace ~we have seen the light at the end of the tunnel and have carpets upstairs !! it’s only taken 10 yrs …yes you have read that right 10 YEARS to get this far LOL. Moo is changing bedrooms and I thought what better time to teach him a little DIY
Obviously I checked the bolts had been tightened but he did the rest himself 🙂
What else have I been up to ? studying of course
Having passed my Train the Trainer in Moving & Handling ( Train the Trainer First Aid next) I have been offered the position of ‘Training Officer’ not just for the home I work at but for THE WHOLE COMPANY!!! OMGoodness I’m more than a little proud at my career growth ….and a touch surprised if the truth be told 🙂
If that wasn’t enough I’m surrounded by no less than 4 mum’s to be so have been sneaking in a little sock knitting for tiny people paws
I do hope not to leave it too long before I post again, thank you for calling by the cottage to keep me company x
Next week when Gelfling Grandson AKA Moo returns to school after Easter his class is embarking on a field trip ~ all them dressed as WW2 evacuees … when Beloved discovered this he asked if I would knit Moo an authentic styled 1940’s sleeveless sweater, Beloved has NEVER asked me to craft anything ~ such is the importance of this commission !!! I found This Pattern on a vintage knitting site and set to
Moo has been rather intrigued watching me wrestle the hedgehog as I begin to master double pointed needles on my quest to learn to knit socks and bless his heart asked if I would knit him some ‘Evacuee socks’ as you can imagine after knitting the grand sum total of two pairs of ‘Creatively Designed’ socks for myself (read that as they were full of errors!) the thought of disappointing the lad filled me with dread plus I had no pattern to follow for boys knee high socks !!! should that put me off ?? ….NO
Beloved made Moo a faux gas mask box out of corrugated card and now my ‘Little Man is set
Mind you it will take nerves of steel when I drop him off at school … remembering The Empty Child from a Dr Who program it will take all my composure not to just leave him at the school gate scream “I love you” and run for my life
Before I set upon my quest to learn how to knit socks I used to gaze in awe at the skills of a certain crafting goddess I met here on WordPress ~ one Tajana Rabar you name it from crochet to knitting to cooking to embroidery the woman can turn her hand to ANYTHING anyhoo I longed for some lacy knee high socks …as you do
I got in touch with Tajana and we came to an agreement ~ bartering par excellence, she would buy the yarn and whip me up a pair of socks in return for something she longed for
Many an eager hour was spent by the pair of us each hardly being able to contain ourselves at the thought of being the owner of something dear to our hearts, in due course a parcel arrived from Italy & I claimed my prize
I still have to master how to take a cool photo of my own legs though !!!
Many thanks to the bartering system both Tajana & I have something to treasure, thank you Tajana for the socks they are the most beautiful, soft, comfortable foot wear known to man ❤
I have found to Beloveds cost ~ apparently I can be quite ‘sarcastic’ if I’m interrupted when I’m mid round on my quest to master double pointed needles .. I think he’s over sensitive but hey ho ~ anyhoo I digress for someone who is about to follow in my hesitant steps to master sock knitting ~ this is EXACTLY what it feels like when you have more needles than hands
By pure dogged determination (some may call it stubbornness) I have completed my first pair on socks ~ I even did my makeup and put on my pearls to celebrate
What did Beloved say when he saw my creation ??
Actually knowing Beloved as well as I do ~ I know that was a huge complement !! I do believe I’m on the slippery slope of becoming a serial sock knitter 🙂
I should think by now you will all be thankful to see the last of ‘My Ladies’ Layette I know I’ve been adding to this commission for what seems an age, but I’ve now finished the last 2 items
And to complete my hand crafted goodies I’ve knitted another pair of bootees
In my last post I’d been working on some crochet flowers for a lady who unfortunately can’t crochet or knit small projects any longer as she had developed arthritis in her hands, well they have winged their way to her so she can accessories her gift wrapping tags and labels, as I’d really enjoyed making them and our village is holding a monthly bazaar to which I’ve been plagued invited to attend as a seller, I need some lower priced hand crafted items, what better than
What lower priced items would you recommend for a bazaar ??
Would you jolly well know it the burning ball of fire sun was shining long enough for me to be able to photograph a couple more items for ‘My Ladies Layette’ to join the Bunny Eared Hat that I’ve already crocheted firstly this cutie
And now for something a little more traditional as per ‘ My Ladies’ request
I have really enjoyed doing little people items, so much so I’m not sure whether to diversify and add a few hand crafted vintage inspired baby items into my on-line store is there a market for that kind of stuff..would you buy or dress your new arrival in that type of apparel ??
My little arms have been like bees wings this week as I have been knitting rabbits for an order, my little girls are now ready to leave the warren to pursue their new adventures
Many, many months ago last December to be exact, I started a rabbit from a delightful pattern by Fiona Goble and I’m not sure why it got sidelined but now I’ve actually got round to finishing it Woo Hoo
My next commissioned order has come and has NOTHING to with rabbits, all be will be revealed in due course 🙂
