My Life With Moo

First of all I take my hat off to anyone whose household includes a child ~ you all deserve a medal .. goodness I’d forgot what to expect when Moo became a more permanent fixture in my life  ..time goes right out of the window even being super organised my day is 5 hrs shorter than anyone else’s  !!

This is so Moo
The questions, the constant chatter, the way he says “Grandma” at the beginning of every sentence ~ even if we are the only 2 folks in the room … I now have a pencil sharpener / rubber in my ‘essentials kit’

This afternoon I have to call into school as he has lost his shoes …yes you have read that right  HE HAS LOST HIS SHOES  how does a child even do that ????

Un be known to me Moo has taken it upon himself to train me as ….

green ninja
Do I need to be a Green Ninja ?? the training is gruelling let me tell you can’t I just be a Knitting Ninja ??

The good news is I have a story read to me each & every day and I’m learning far more about Ancient Egypt and WW2 than is strictly necessary ~ which I’m sure is a bonus I just haven’t figured out how yet … so this is why I’ve not commented on your blogs in recent weeks, I am still here & I’m still lurking reading your posts ~ which provide a respite to the world through the eyes of a 7 yr old, my blog will possibly become semi redundant which is a shame … but as another blogger pointed out I have the ‘Parents Race’ at sports day to contend with

1970's P E socks
Remember 1970’s P E socks ?? I’m sooo going to knit myself a pair ..I might not win any races but I’ll have the fashion stakes covered 🙂

New Direction And A New Skill

Sorry I’ve been away for ages …forgive me ?? so just what on earth have I been up to ?? Well funny you should ask grab yourself a cuppa and I’ll explain ~ the time was right for me to take a starring role in Gelfling Grandson’s life ..tongue in cheek quote – obviously his daddy has the starring role I’m more of your best female artist

enjoy-life-quotes-2
I’ve never had a clue about the plot in my life ~but that has never stopped me 🙂

I now do virtually all the school runs, Moo stays with Beloved & I a couple of nights a week depending on 2nd Born’s work placements from his nursing uni course and I have altered my working life to school hours during term time only ~apart from every other weekend. Now for the really important news  ….I have taught myself to use dpn and have embarked on my first pair of socks !!!!

heel-flap-and-gusett-first-sock
I have had an irrational fear of dpn since like forever, ~ get me learning something new LOL

I now feel like I’m leading some sort of incredible double life, learning something new AND having a youngster around  ….. which really gives you a whole new lease of life

On A Cold And Frosty Morning

Moo AKA Gelfling Grandson & I have spent a magical couple of days together, as you may be aware one of his all time bestest thing (his words not mine :-)) is to be outside and if that includes a long walk all the better, soooo after a leisurely breakfast that’s exactly what we did, where the sun had cast shadows a little frost lingered

frosty-patch
All along our walk we caught glimpses of where Jack Frost had skipped about over night leaving his silver treasure for us to find

If that wasn’t enough magic we found something fantastical

tangled-backwood-scarecrow
A ‘rustic’ scarecrow …Tangled Backwoods style

And on the way home Moo’s eye caught sight of something bright red

What better way to spend a cold & frosty morning

Now for news on 2nd Born’s nursing studies ~ as a complete surprise for him Beloved & I have decided  for his elective placement next summer to sponsor him to go to Tanzania for a month, I have arranged to have a leave of absence from ‘The Workplace’ to look after Gelfling Grandson so in a few months ..

Rainy Day Out

I’m not sure if you are aware but just for the record…the UK is having a washout of a summer, it must have rained for part of each day for weeks & weeks ~ so what do you do when you have planned a day out ?? go anyway !!

Big sky
One of the joys living in the countryside is the big skies …even if it’s raining

Today we are off to our nearest city ~ Lincoln, to show Gelfling Grandson something a little special …according to me that is

Lincoln
Although Moo has seen Lincoln Cathedral before many times, he did ask if I could show you a photo we took from the top of steep hill

So what is so ‘special’that I wanted Moo to see ?

Lincoln Poppies
The wave of poppies to mark the centenary of WW1 it was even more poignant in the rain, Moo has grown up seeing poppies wreaths all year round on the war memorial which we can see from every room of the cottage so he knew the significance of the wave.

There was only one thing more to do ….Lunch

Moo aged 6 yrs 11 months
Goodness than that boy eat !!!

Not Quite Right

It’s a well-known fact in our home that although I can cook … I’ve never quite mastered a Yorkshire pudding, no doubt you now are envisioning a light, golden and crisp masterpiece…..well mine are not quite like that

Mine look like this , but have the added benefit of having a slightly 'soggy' bottom
Mine look like this , but have the added benefit of having a slightly ‘soggy’ bottom , I’ve tried many a recipe,  and all the top tips have failed to deliver

My puds are quite edible after all my boys didn’t grow to 6 foot 4, and 6 foot 2 by chance you know!! it’s just that my puds are … how shall I put it … they are ‘an acquired taste’  When Beloved & I took First Born on his first B&B holiday one of the evening meals included Yorkshire’s, upon tasting the good ladies puds, First Born screwed his face up and proclaimed ” These are not like yours Mum” I replied “What can I say son, not everyone can cook a Yorkshire properly” the rest of the diners then began to examine their puds in detail.

Many years later when First Born brought his Lady Love to dinner for the first time I cooked my Yorkshire’s simply to see her reaction, bless her she ate them, Beloved & I sat there sniggering while First Born told his Lady Love that she would never be able to cook a pud like mine, she tentatively replied that “No she didn’t think she could”.

A couple of years ago we had a family dinner where …

You guessed it ~ I served my by now legendary Yorkshire pud

Gelfling Grandson took one bite, we all stopped eating and turned to look at him, he gifted us with a huge smile “Yummy in my tummy” was his critique, a cheer went up ..my legendary puds have found favour with another generation….my job here is done.
