Every now & again I have a marvellous idea that I somehow just don’t think through, yesterday was a fine example :- Beloved had a days annual leave and as Moo was still on half term, I piped up “lets all go to the Peak District” firstly I wasn’t expecting ..
Lets go down Blue Johns Cavern I suggested … it’s been years since I’d been down the mine & I was sure Moo would love it so off we skipped. Moo was full of wonder and to be fair so was Beloved & I
In my hazy childhood recollection I had some how ‘forgotten’ the 250ish steps to descend / ascend said mine ….on the way back up we paused a while for a little safety tip ~ the guide informed us “The next 92 steps are a little steep & wet so please hold onto the rail” WHAT THE FOX … I stood there full of fears of not getting out of there ALIVE, my breathing was a little … how shall I say it …. NON EXISTANT all I could envision was the rescue team pilling down said hole in the ground and having to haul my backside out of there with a pulley system, and the trauma team waiting to revive me. Trying to contain my thoughts of being the first full time resident of the mine & having to survive on scraps of food thrown to me by passing visitors I bought a little time by taking ‘artistic’ photos
Anyhoo making out I was some sort of professional artistic photographer bought me enough time to gather my wits about me to get out of there. On reaching daylight once more (albeit feeling sick, sweating like piglet and feeling like I’d cheated death) I have made a vow to turn my lifestyle around ~ I need to improve my diet (YES I ‘may’ have put on a pound or 2 over Christmas !! ) plus regain my fitness (it’s surprising how since loosing K9 and not walking everyday my fitness has declined) After my ordeal Beloved took for us lunch to celebrate the fact I was still in the land of the living, when it came to time for desert I relived the mornings events in my mind …. and chose a huge slice of carrot cake (without cream) instead of chocolate cake … well carrot cake IS healthier I mean it had carrots & raisins in which are 2 of my 5 a day right
Today is Pancake day … a day my family celebrate to the full extent ~ WHY ??
This year Moo is old enough to make the batter himself .. which the poor lamb had to hand mix with a balloon whisk because the mixer wasn’t working … later when I came to turn on the cooker I realised the mixer wasn’t in fact broken, but the electricity box had ‘tripped’ D’oh
Anyhoo his batter was made to perfection
Post pancake would be an ideal time to photograph my latest yarn dyeing experiments I thought to myself … here I am all geared up with a photoshoot to rival David Bailey when this happens
I have been holding out on you all, I’ve been knitting away on a couple of mini projects and I haven’t shared, anyhoo here’s what I’ve been up to
To ring the changes I deviated from socks
Soooooo the reason I’ve been knitting for a small person ?? …….. I’M GOING TO BE A GRANDMA AGAIN. Baby aka ‘Podge’ should be making an entrance in the early summer, something tells me life is going to get a whole lot busier & exciting 🙂
Anther in the series of our summer round up and our second 1940’s festival was at Baston Lincolnshire, yet again the weather wasn’t that great ~ but that never stopped us having a fun time and even better Moo got to realise a special memory making event
Moo drove us CRAZY until Grandpa relented and let him have a go on a supervised shooting range (which didn’t use ‘real’ guns but Airsoft replicas)
These weekends are very popular with pre war car owners, individuals take part in history reenactments and most folks wear period dress, the atmosphere is always friendly. For anyone into crafts there are various buying opportunities to acquire vintage style fabric and original knitting patterns ~ which I may or may not have indulged in 🙂 If that wasn’t enough a certain young man has asked me submit a photo for your viewing pleasure …
In good ‘ole Blighty there hasn’t been much of a summer, rain most days, not overly warm and yet Moo & I have been having a riot while his daddy has been doing his month long elective placement at a Tanzanian hospital. According to the gospel of Moo one of the highlights has been our ‘War Weekends’ firstly I’ll give you the edited highlights of Woodhall Spa’s 40’s festival
At this festival weekend it’s positively encouraged that all visitors ~ should they so wish, dress the part and most of the 50,000 folks who went took up the challenge, Beloved Moo & myself included.
Hercule tried to excel the virtues of Agatha Christie’s Belgian sleuth upon Moo ~ who promptly ~ yet I have to say politely, pointed out the errors of his ways as Grandma prefers Miss Marple, I have to say I never realised Moo took that much notice of my detective viewing habits or indeed that he knew who Poirot or Marple were …I stand corrected 🙂
First of all I take my hat off to anyone whose household includes a child ~ you all deserve a medal .. goodness I’d forgot what to expect when Moo became a more permanent fixture in my life ..time goes right out of the window even being super organised my day is 5 hrs shorter than anyone else’s !!
This afternoon I have to call into school as he has lost his shoes …yes you have read that right HE HAS LOST HIS SHOES how does a child even do that ????
Un be known to me Moo has taken it upon himself to train me as ….
The good news is I have a story read to me each & every day and I’m learning far more about Ancient Egypt and WW2 than is strictly necessary ~ which I’m sure is a bonus I just haven’t figured out how yet … so this is why I’ve not commented on your blogs in recent weeks, I am still here & I’m still lurking reading your posts ~ which provide a respite to the world through the eyes of a 7 yr old, my blog will possibly become semi redundant which is a shame … but as another blogger pointed out I have the ‘Parents Race’ at sports day to contend with
Sorry I’ve been away for ages …forgive me ?? so just what on earth have I been up to ?? Well funny you should ask grab yourself a cuppa and I’ll explain ~ the time was right for me to take a starring role in Gelfling Grandson’s life ..tongue in cheek quote – obviously his daddy has the starring role I’m more of your best female artist
I now do virtually all the school runs, Moo stays with Beloved & I a couple of nights a week depending on 2nd Born’s work placements from his nursing uni course and I have altered my working life to school hours during term time only ~apart from every other weekend. Now for the really important news ….I have taught myself to use dpn and have embarked on my first pair of socks !!!!
I now feel like I’m leading some sort of incredible double life, learning something new AND having a youngster around ….. which really gives you a whole new lease of life
