Today is Pancake day … a day my family celebrate to the full extent ~ WHY ??
This year Moo is old enough to make the batter himself .. which the poor lamb had to hand mix with a balloon whisk because the mixer wasn’t working … later when I came to turn on the cooker I realised the mixer wasn’t in fact broken, but the electricity box had ‘tripped’ D’oh
Anyhoo his batter was made to perfection
Post pancake would be an ideal time to photograph my latest yarn dyeing experiments I thought to myself … here I am all geared up with a photoshoot to rival David Bailey when this happens
Last weekend was our local towns 25th ‘Annual Classic Car & Motorcycle Show’ which Moo was quite keen to attend, so early morning saw us parked up in the Town Hall car park along with around at least 100 other classics, this show was slightly different as the cars were parked into ‘eras’ which meant visitors could swoon over whichever section in motoring history floated their boat. By now you are possibly wondering why Moo & Millicent are minor celebrities? WELL the local newspaper photographers were out & about AND ….
Millicent must have really been strutting her stuff as she impressed enough folks to vote for her in the spectators poll AND …
We have noticed when we escort Millicent on her travels or attend shows and vintage events she does get her fair share of attention, for an 80 yr old lady this sure makes her day
But this has given us an idea … we are considering looking into the possibility of hiring Millicent out as a film extra ~ I just know Miss Marple would LOVE to have Millicent drive past her in the background during a shoot
Anther in the series of our summer round up and our second 1940’s festival was at Baston Lincolnshire, yet again the weather wasn’t that great ~ but that never stopped us having a fun time and even better Moo got to realise a special memory making event
Moo drove us CRAZY until Grandpa relented and let him have a go on a supervised shooting range (which didn’t use ‘real’ guns but Airsoft replicas)
These weekends are very popular with pre war car owners, individuals take part in history reenactments and most folks wear period dress, the atmosphere is always friendly. For anyone into crafts there are various buying opportunities to acquire vintage style fabric and original knitting patterns ~ which I may or may not have indulged in 🙂 If that wasn’t enough a certain young man has asked me submit a photo for your viewing pleasure …
In good ‘ole Blighty there hasn’t been much of a summer, rain most days, not overly warm and yet Moo & I have been having a riot while his daddy has been doing his month long elective placement at a Tanzanian hospital. According to the gospel of Moo one of the highlights has been our ‘War Weekends’ firstly I’ll give you the edited highlights of Woodhall Spa’s 40’s festival
At this festival weekend it’s positively encouraged that all visitors ~ should they so wish, dress the part and most of the 50,000 folks who went took up the challenge, Beloved Moo & myself included.
Hercule tried to excel the virtues of Agatha Christie’s Belgian sleuth upon Moo ~ who promptly ~ yet I have to say politely, pointed out the errors of his ways as Grandma prefers Miss Marple, I have to say I never realised Moo took that much notice of my detective viewing habits or indeed that he knew who Poirot or Marple were …I stand corrected 🙂
It seems FOREVER since I’ve been in Blogland, I do hope you are all fighting fit and at one with the world. While I’ve been missing I have been ever sooo busy, The Cottage On The Green renovations have been moving apace ~we have seen the light at the end of the tunnel and have carpets upstairs !! it’s only taken 10 yrs …yes you have read that right 10 YEARS to get this far LOL. Moo is changing bedrooms and I thought what better time to teach him a little DIY
Obviously I checked the bolts had been tightened but he did the rest himself 🙂
What else have I been up to ? studying of course
Having passed my Train the Trainer in Moving & Handling ( Train the Trainer First Aid next) I have been offered the position of ‘Training Officer’ not just for the home I work at but for THE WHOLE COMPANY!!! OMGoodness I’m more than a little proud at my career growth ….and a touch surprised if the truth be told 🙂
If that wasn’t enough I’m surrounded by no less than 4 mum’s to be so have been sneaking in a little sock knitting for tiny people paws
I do hope not to leave it too long before I post again, thank you for calling by the cottage to keep me company x
Next week when Gelfling Grandson AKA Moo returns to school after Easter his class is embarking on a field trip ~ all them dressed as WW2 evacuees … when Beloved discovered this he asked if I would knit Moo an authentic styled 1940’s sleeveless sweater, Beloved has NEVER asked me to craft anything ~ such is the importance of this commission !!! I found This Pattern on a vintage knitting site and set to
Moo has been rather intrigued watching me wrestle the hedgehog as I begin to master double pointed needles on my quest to learn to knit socks and bless his heart asked if I would knit him some ‘Evacuee socks’ as you can imagine after knitting the grand sum total of two pairs of ‘Creatively Designed’ socks for myself (read that as they were full of errors!) the thought of disappointing the lad filled me with dread plus I had no pattern to follow for boys knee high socks !!! should that put me off ?? ….NO
Beloved made Moo a faux gas mask box out of corrugated card and now my ‘Little Man is set
Mind you it will take nerves of steel when I drop him off at school … remembering The Empty Child from a Dr Who program it will take all my composure not to just leave him at the school gate scream “I love you” and run for my life
