Adding To My Ladies Layette

Would you jolly well know it the burning ball of fire  sun was shining long enough for me to be able to photograph  a couple more items for ‘My Ladies Layette’ to join the Bunny Eared Hat that I’ve already crocheted firstly this cutie

A newborn size beanie, it only took an evening to knit
A newborn size beanie, it only took an evening to knit, and it’s teeny tiny and sooo adorable

And now for something a little more traditional as per ‘ My Ladies’ request

A pair of simple knitted booties, and a crocheted pixie bonnet - to which I might add a pom pom if I have enough yarn left over
A pair of simple knitted booties, and a crocheted pixie bonnet – to which I might add a pom pom if I have enough yarn left over – I have a little something blocking that requires edging, so I’ll have to see what yarn I have left

I have really enjoyed doing little people items, so much so I’m not sure whether to diversify and add a few hand crafted vintage inspired baby items into my on-line store is there a market for that kind of stuff..would you buy or dress your new arrival in that type of apparel ??

I Just Thought I Ought To Let You Know

Just to set the record straight I give my deepest apologies for being MIA (‘The Workplace’ related stuff) now I’m not sure how to say this so I’m just going to throw it out there …I have an alter ego –  she looks like me, sounds like me, heck some folks think it is me  – but there is a subtle difference, oh and if you decide to stop reading about now I understand

She is always bright , sunny, has a powder puff full of sparkly glitter....has no concept of time, doesn't even know I exist and comes up with copious 'good ideas'

I call her Dolly Daydream…let me give you an example of her impact on my daily life, it’s was her idea to have everyone round to ours for a large pre-Christmas lunch – even though I’m on a long stretch at ‘The Workplace’ on early shift that day so will have been up since 5 am, she said let’s have a super excited Gelfling Grandson to stay the week before Christmas, then to top it all WHILE I WAS STOOD RIGHT THERE she said instead of buying a gift for a residents Secret Santa she would make something !!!!!!!!!!

WHAT !!.. shut up Dolly Daydream, I can hear you, that’s right you just smile and flounce off – I’m never sure whether to hug her for her kind thoughts or go straight for her wand and snap it in two

Yes I know it's super simple ,and yes I did have to buy a couple of different coloured balls of yarn to complete the blanket...but I've wanted to do a stripy blanket for ages
So that is how I came to be crocheting a lap blanket, I have this week to complete it, Dolly also thought it would be a good idea to commence the ‘Great Pre Christmas Cottage Clean’ so I guess that will be my weeks annual leave sorted then

On the plus side who would have thought stripes could be such fun and for Dolly’s sake so soothing, Dolly also said I need to catch up with everyone’s blog posts 🙂

Look Who Has Found A Friend

A little while ago I posted about the plight of my friend Theo Grey now I’m not one to blow my own trumpet BUT I have put Emma in Jane Austen’s novel to shame, I plotted, held impromptu dinner parties and drinks in the garden on balmy summer nights  and lo and behold

Rose finally caught Theo's attention
Rose finally caught Theo’s attention, here she is all dressed in her sun-dress, I’m not surprised she has captured his heart

They are becoming quite an item, being seen together most evenings, I do believe its love … how do I know ?? well its obvious really when a lady rabbit is besotted her nose turns into a red heart

The happy couple, now will I be needing a new outfit for a winter wedding I wonder

Well Hello Lovely Yarn

I know this may be a little early to mention the Christmas word, but this year all my gifts are to be hand crafted, so I need to start now !!

Gelfling & Lady love (First Born's intended) gifts are going to be made with this super Drops Alpaca 4 ply yarn

I have down loaded the first pattern (all 41 pages of it !!) and am raring to go, OK let me re-phrase that, I’m a little apprehensive as the first project has 58 motifs and I actually need to learn how to do an African flower pentagon, heptagon, triangle, octagon and square yet, so all I can say is ….it may be a long old haul, don’t wait up, and for all my blogging companions I’ll sign off with this message …

Please May I Have A Blanket ?

Gelfling Grandchild has always seen me crafting away, the little lamb actually thinks I knit rabbits for a living, although he knows I have a day job he is under the misinterpretation the ‘Lovelies’  I assist somehow help in my ‘Crafting Empire’

Anyhoo he has never asked me to create him anything until he charged into the cottage a couple of days ago sat next to me and quietly asked can I make him a blanket

Gelfling Grandchild….. ‘ Grandma please may I have a blanket….it needs to be blue, you know blue like the sky, blue like the water in the beck, blue like the rain in puddles’

Me ….’We’ll see’  which is actually code for yes, but all in good time

Second born took to the hunt for the right shades of blue yarn with a gusto which amazed me
Second born ( Gelflings daddy) took to the hunt for the right shades of blue yarn with a gusto which amazed me, dismissing several options with comments .. nope not the right shades/nope that has green in it/nope that’s not what we are looking for, this was second born’s  ultimate choice 🙂

Gelfling Grandchild held his arms aloft depicting how large he would like his blanket to be if indeed I could make him one, he’s actually given this a lot of thought my I hope I can live up to his expectations

So the Hues of Blue blanket odyssey begins
So the Hues of Blue blanket odyssey begins, if you creative types can squint the left half depicts the beck and puddles the  right hand side the sky with a scattering of clouds, if you can’t envision wait until you are the worse for the demon drink , make sure its dark then lo and behold and it will become as clear as day

I have done it in ripple stitch as this may be construed as waves crashing on the shore, this last sentence could lead you to the conclusion that I have a vivid imagination, or I live in my own little world…either explanation is fine with me

Lessons Learned

I’ve been itching to make myself something, so after many an hour a short trawl on the tinternet I came across this THIS …. a Japanese Apron inspired top

Feeling suitably creative I set about my task, I ended up modifying the pattern slightly as I didn’t want it as long, or quite as wide,  last year lucky me was gifted some gorgeous fabric from a fellow crafter in the village, thanks Shelley for your generosity

A semi professional type shot of my work in progress
I wanted bias binding on my version so here is a semi professional type shot of my work in progress, I was going to use cream binding but when I saw this green I just knew I would get the look I was looking for

I’m quite happy with how my summer top turned out, I’m just waiting on the warmer weather now 🙂

I love the fabric, I love the length, it's just above my knee
I love the fabric, I love the length, it’s just above my knee, so should look great teamed with cropped jeans and flip flops
The back is rather cool as it will show off which ever vest / camisole I choose to wear
The back is rather cool as it will show off which ever vest / camisole I choose to wear

However there are things I’ll change on the next one I make, I’ll keep the length the same, although I’ll alter how I did the shoulder seams, I made a slight boo boo and put the binding on then sewed the shoulder seam up, D’oh, it would look more professional the other way round !!!!  as my next top will be in a heavier fabric as I want to wear it over a blouse / roll neck top more suitable for Autumn / Winter I’ll make it wider so it crosses over on the back not making whatever I wear underneath visible, Yep I think I’m on a roll now 🙂
