A Very Important Order

Next week when Gelfling Grandson AKA Moo returns to school after Easter his class is embarking on a field trip ~ all them dressed as WW2 evacuees … when Beloved discovered this he asked if I would knit Moo an authentic styled 1940’s sleeveless sweater, Beloved has NEVER asked me to craft anything ~ such is the importance of this commission !!! I found This Pattern on a vintage knitting site and set to

1940's tank top
I thought school grey would be the best choice as Moo has ‘gone through the knees’ on a pair of his school trousers which I’ll be able to convert into 1940’s styled short trousers

Moo has been rather intrigued watching me wrestle the hedgehog as I begin to master double pointed needles on my quest to learn to knit socks and bless his heart asked if I would knit him some ‘Evacuee socks’ as you can imagine after knitting the grand sum total of two pairs of ‘Creatively Designed’ socks for myself (read that as they were full of errors!) the thought of disappointing the lad filled me with dread plus I had no pattern to follow for boys knee high socks !!! should that put me off  ?? ….NO

Evacuee socks
Not only did I rise to the challenge I added a fancy heel flap ~ even the decorative decreases down the back look jolly neat and even though I’m a little biased I think they look rather good LOL

Beloved made Moo a faux gas mask box out of corrugated card and now my ‘Little Man is set

Evacuee outfit
Ta Da I’m hoping he will look awesome

Mind you it will take nerves of steel when I drop him off at school  … remembering The Empty Child from a Dr Who program it will take all my composure not to just leave him at the school gate scream “I love you” and run for my life

The Bartering System

Before I set upon my quest to learn how to knit socks I used to gaze in awe at the skills of a certain crafting goddess I met here on WordPress ~ one Tajana Rabar  you name it from crochet to knitting to cooking to embroidery the woman can turn her hand to ANYTHING anyhoo I longed for some lacy knee high socks …as you do

I got in touch with Tajana and we came to an agreement ~ bartering par excellence, she would buy the yarn and whip me up a pair of socks in return for something she longed for

Bartering goodies
Tajana had really set her heart upon a Chanel lipstick in a VERY fetching shade of red and a set of Karbonz sock needles and so the deal was sealed

Many an eager hour was spent by the pair of us each hardly being able to contain ourselves at the thought of being the owner of something dear to our hearts, in due course a parcel arrived from Italy & I claimed my prize

Socks from Tajana
Are these not just the most gorgeous socks in the whole world ???

I still have to master how to take a cool photo of my own legs though !!!

Many thanks to the bartering system both Tajana & I have something to treasure, thank you Tajana for the socks they are the most beautiful, soft, comfortable foot wear known to man ❤

Praise Indeed

I have found to Beloveds cost ~ apparently I can be quite ‘sarcastic’ if I’m interrupted when I’m mid round on my quest to master double pointed needles .. I think he’s over sensitive but hey ho ~ anyhoo I digress for someone who is about to follow in my hesitant steps to master sock knitting  ~ this is EXACTLY what it feels like when you have more needles than hands

Be like Sally ~ persevere not only will you end up knitting in the round … you will have a new career as well !!

By pure dogged determination (some may call it stubbornness) I have completed my first pair on socks ~ I even did my makeup  and put on my pearls to celebrate

I squealed and everything

What did Beloved say when he saw my creation ??

“Oh yeah they look like real socks”

Actually knowing Beloved as well as I do ~ I know that was a huge complement !! I do believe I’m on the slippery slope of becoming a serial sock knitter 🙂

New Direction And A New Skill

Sorry I’ve been away for ages …forgive me ?? so just what on earth have I been up to ?? Well funny you should ask grab yourself a cuppa and I’ll explain ~ the time was right for me to take a starring role in Gelfling Grandson’s life ..tongue in cheek quote – obviously his daddy has the starring role I’m more of your best female artist

I’ve never had a clue about the plot in my life ~but that has never stopped me 🙂

I now do virtually all the school runs, Moo stays with Beloved & I a couple of nights a week depending on 2nd Born’s work placements from his nursing uni course and I have altered my working life to school hours during term time only ~apart from every other weekend. Now for the really important news  ….I have taught myself to use dpn and have embarked on my first pair of socks !!!!

I have had an irrational fear of dpn since like forever, ~ get me learning something new LOL

I now feel like I’m leading some sort of incredible double life, learning something new AND having a youngster around  ….. which really gives you a whole new lease of life

Go on ask me anything about Star Wars or Sesame Street I dare you …I have them both covered 🙂

Last Of the Layette

I should think by now you will all be thankful to see the last of ‘My Ladies’ Layette I know I’ve been adding to this commission for what seems an age, but I’ve now finished the last 2 items

Baby Cardi
A pretty in pink 0-3 month cardi with a delicate crochet edge sooo small and cuteness overload

And to complete my hand crafted goodies I’ve knitted another pair of bootees

How tiny, just think a new person will be wearing these soon ❤

In my last post I’d been working on some crochet flowers for a lady who unfortunately can’t crochet or knit small projects any longer as she had developed arthritis in her hands, well they have winged their way to her so she can accessories her gift wrapping tags and labels, as I’d really enjoyed making them and our village is holding a monthly bazaar to which I’ve been plagued invited to attend as a seller, I need some lower priced hand crafted  items, what better than

Flower brooches
A selection of crocheted flower brooches, quick, simple and I get to use scraps of yarn, as well as raid my button tin…bonus !!

What lower priced items would you recommend for a bazaar ??

Adding To My Ladies Layette

Would you jolly well know it the burning ball of fire  sun was shining long enough for me to be able to photograph  a couple more items for ‘My Ladies Layette’ to join the Bunny Eared Hat that I’ve already crocheted firstly this cutie

A newborn size beanie, it only took an evening to knit
A newborn size beanie, it only took an evening to knit, and it’s teeny tiny and sooo adorable

And now for something a little more traditional as per ‘ My Ladies’ request

A pair of simple knitted booties, and a crocheted pixie bonnet - to which I might add a pom pom if I have enough yarn left over
A pair of simple knitted booties, and a crocheted pixie bonnet – to which I might add a pom pom if I have enough yarn left over – I have a little something blocking that requires edging, so I’ll have to see what yarn I have left

I have really enjoyed doing little people items, so much so I’m not sure whether to diversify and add a few hand crafted vintage inspired baby items into my on-line store is there a market for that kind of stuff..would you buy or dress your new arrival in that type of apparel ??

Missing Due To Being In Demand

Just in case you were slightly curious… even if you weren’t I’m going to tell you anyway just where I’m at in the whirlwind that is called my life at the moment

Beloved becomes ‘Unbusy’ as of 18 th December ..he gets made redundant – I’m saying he will be Unbusy, he will actually be taking on the role of

'Carson The Butler' to The Cottage On The Green
‘Carson The Butler’ to The Cottage On The Green, anyone who watches Downton Abbey or indeed has a butler will know what a super accessory to the household they are

This will free up invaluable time for me to take up what feels like semi permanent residence at ‘The Workplace’ I’m on a 2 week rota which entails one week of a minimum of 35 hrs and the second week at a minimum of  49 hrs ….. as if I’m not lucky enough I also doing …

A 10 week course to update my certificate in the safe handling of medication
A 10 week course to update my certificate in the safe handling of medication, which for your information contains WAY more maths than I deemed appropriate !!

AND I’ve been commissioned to whip up a knitted storm of baby garments, for a colleagues daughter whom is expecting a surprise yet very welcomed addition to her family

I've been asked to do both a tradition layette, as well as a couple of modern pieces
I’ve been asked to do both a tradition layette, as well as a couple of modern pieces

Please know I am reading your blogs even though I’m not commenting as much, I’ll only be doing infrequent posts for the foreseeable future but I’d like to thank everyone who has shown support for my inane ramblings  🙂
