Next week when Gelfling Grandson AKA Moo returns to school after Easter his class is embarking on a field trip ~ all them dressed as WW2 evacuees … when Beloved discovered this he asked if I would knit Moo an authentic styled 1940’s sleeveless sweater, Beloved has NEVER asked me to craft anything ~ such is the importance of this commission !!! I found This Pattern on a vintage knitting site and set to
Moo has been rather intrigued watching me wrestle the hedgehog as I begin to master double pointed needles on my quest to learn to knit socks and bless his heart asked if I would knit him some ‘Evacuee socks’ as you can imagine after knitting the grand sum total of two pairs of ‘Creatively Designed’ socks for myself (read that as they were full of errors!) the thought of disappointing the lad filled me with dread plus I had no pattern to follow for boys knee high socks !!! should that put me off ?? ….NO
Beloved made Moo a faux gas mask box out of corrugated card and now my ‘Little Man is set
Mind you it will take nerves of steel when I drop him off at school … remembering The Empty Child from a Dr Who program it will take all my composure not to just leave him at the school gate scream “I love you” and run for my life
For today’s venture into the unknown I thought I would draw inspiration from the wonderful Mrs T over at Caren’s Creative Canvas & Craft
~ sorry to brandish your good name about Mrs T, feel free to disassociate yourself from this post at any given moment, but please be aware YOU do have to take part blame for this new foray into uncharted waters
Anyhoo what am I up to ? …all you good folks who quilt will understand the title ‘mile a minute’ as its a reference to using scraps of fabric to …well make new fabric really, I’m assured by the good folks on ‘The Google’ that there is no wrong way of doing this …I’ll be the judge of that thank you !! I have a project in mind but after seeing Mrs T’s amazing fabric creations I though it was high time I took a leaf out of her book and used up some of my off cuts !!
At this rate in a month of Sundays I’ll have enough designer created ‘new fabric’ to actually begin phase 2 of my project until then I’m having a ball ‘painting’ with fabric
I’ve been on the search for curtain material for ‘The Designer Bathroom’ for what seems like forever, at one point I even saw / lusted after some fabric ~but it was ridiculously priced so I’ve been making do with a donated pair of curtains in a slightly sickly shade of blood-red, not ideal as I’m quite sure blood red in the curtain department is a touch passe. Anyhoo on a visit to an antique centre I happened upon a little room where the owners re-upholstered pre loved/ vintage/antique furniture and they were selling off this as it was surplus to requirements
Then out of the corner of my eye I saw this
The lovely chap…possibly at the risk of loosing a limb when his good lady wife finds out (she had nipped off for a cup of tea) gave me a price too good to refuse …£20 for the two
Which in my mind would be too rude to refuse !!! I thrust the money at him and was trying (almost unsuccessfully ) not to gallop out of the centre before his good lady wife finds out what he’s done 🙂
As you may or may not even care I’ve been having random thoughts towards next years craft fairs and trying out variants on a theme – it seems I have a slight reputation for rabbits …as if !! yet I’m working on keeping my stall ‘fresh’ if you know what I mean, Anyhoo as a lover of vintage I thought I’d give something retro -ish (not a real word but if it catches on you know who was throwing it about lol) So here is what I came up with
I do love an apron/pinny they are just sooo COOL, what has this to do with rabbits ? well ….
I think this random thought adds just a little rabbit interest that my stall could may well accommodate
There is only one problem …I want to keep it for myself !!
I has a little seed of an idea of how to incorporate a tiny cross stitch rabbit, a few tiny scraps of Harris tweed and a couple of other smidgens of fabric to hand, voila
While I was having a totally enjoyable time sewing away K9 was being rather quiet, which should have warned me he was up to no good, I thought he was simply settled with his Kong filled with treats and peanut butter …turns out he was being just as creative only in a slightly messier way then me
Have you any idea how much stuffing is in one of those beds ..this is only half the carnage, right after I cleared up I made time for us to be together …and he promptly went to sleep curled up at my feet as if butter wouldn’t melt ..toad
PS … K9 HERE ~I swear it wasn’t me ~ it was Neurotic Cat in revenge for me ‘accidentally’ eating her bed ages ago
OK who has messed with my admin page here on WP it’s been updated again hasn’t it !!!
Anyhoo I’ve been lucky enough to have a few days off work, firstly I spent Saturday running the cafe at the village craft fair instead of having a stall ~ raising a total of £98 .00 which was donated to the ‘Memorial Hall Fund’ I have also taken full advantage to spend a fair few hours crafting …gosh I’ve been a whirlwind of activity, fabric combinations have been been scattered and judged on their merits
I even took most of one day designing and making a 1950’s inspired dress for my latest rabbit Sadie
I have a couple of days left to my own devices …and other project in the wings, I’ll keep you posted on my latest makes as and when they see the light of day 🙂
The winter light at the cottage has been ~ how shall I put it …
Now bare in mind I have no ceiling lights in the cottage, just a few wall lights, so do you know what would be a fabulous idea ?? a little more hand sewing, after all a second Secret Santa gift and raffle prize ain’t going to sew themselves, still it’s not quite so good on the old eyes
Anyhoo after many a hour let me introduce you to ….
Now perhaps a little cross stitch to finish my eye sight off completely 🙂
