Keep Fit The Gelfling Grandson Way

Gelfling Grandson AKA ‘Moo’ has a passion for being outside something I have encouraged from day 1 ~ when I ask him if he’d like to go for a walk you would think I’d offered him some sort of major treat 🙂  I try to maintain a goal of 10,000 steps per day so when Moo comes to visit I know it will be a goal that is easy peasy to reach. Today was super cold but the pair of us wrapped up warm & set off into the unknown

Today’s walk will take just a tad longer as Moo needs to smash each & every puddle …obviously !!

Of course we had to call by to see how the Lincolnshire Red cattle were fairing in their barn

This chap was as pleased to see us as we were to see him 🙂

Being the adventurous duo we are ~ it was time to go off piste

Bear Grylls / Ray Mears / Ed Stafford please move over there is a new kid on the block ready to take up the exploring mantle

The best thing about our adventure …Grandpa had a nice hot lunch & mug of hot chocolate waiting for us when we eventually arrive back at the cottage AND total steps count 11585

On A Cold And Frosty Morning

Moo AKA Gelfling Grandson & I have spent a magical couple of days together, as you may be aware one of his all time bestest thing (his words not mine :-)) is to be outside and if that includes a long walk all the better, soooo after a leisurely breakfast that’s exactly what we did, where the sun had cast shadows a little frost lingered

frosty-patch
All along our walk we caught glimpses of where Jack Frost had skipped about over night leaving his silver treasure for us to find

If that wasn’t enough magic we found something fantastical

A ‘rustic’ scarecrow …Tangled Backwoods style

And on the way home Moo’s eye caught sight of something bright red

A whole host of rose hips ~ rose hip syrup anyone ??

What better way to spend a cold & frosty morning

Little Library And A Long Walk

The first day of the school holidays also coincided with me having a 3 day weekend …I know me on a 3 day weekend !!  Anyhoo this means Moo can come to stay, so how do you entertain a young man who is nearly 7,  LOVES being outdoors and is into cooking at the moment ???  firstly a gentle stroll of a mile to the next hamlet to visit the ‘Little Library’

Little Hale Library
Little Hale phone box has been home to a library for as long as I can remember, although the defibrillator wasn’t installed until 2015

As luck would have it there were 3 cookbooks for our approval, Moo being the discerning chef he is, thought this one was the right choice for us ..the almond pastry featured inside  had no bearing on his preference what so ever

Cook book from Little Hale Phone Box Library
The deal in the community is ..if we decide to keep the book rather than just borrow it we simply drop off any book to keep the stock replenished

Now we could simply just have walked back the way we came …OH NO …lets go the long way round  Moo uttered ..Bear Grylls please be aware the next generation is snapping at your heels!!!  so began our 6 mile odyssey meandering down country lanes, taking in the scenery, drinking at least a gallon of water, while Moo chattered away ~ the topics covered subjects from HIS rules for being kind to butterflies to Roman bricks ???

So here  is the photographic evidence of our afternoon

Over the fields & far away
Helpringham Church can just be seen in the distance
Cornfields at Little Hale
The heatwave has really ripened the crops
Working Farm
Just one of four farms we passed along the way

If your wondering about the ‘Almond Pastry’ that Moo gave the thumbs up to …

Almond desert
As I am on day 3 of a healthy eating regime making this just to watch everyone else tuck in will be a MAJOR undertaking !!

Gelfling’s To Do List

Late yesterday afternoon the sun broke through after a rather damp dull day, Gelfling took this as a cue to make a start on his ‘to do’  list

A walk up North Fen Lane was first on his list
A walk up North Fen Lane was first on his list … Grandpa and K9 were allowed to come as Gelfling figured he would need their help later on in the walk

Now don’t be under the impression that this was a mere stroll.. Oh no Gelfling had an ulterior motive

Blackberries were the goal of our walk,
Blackberries were the goal of our walk, the more the merrier as far as Gelfling is concerned, this is where Grandpa comes in …he can reach higher than us to pick the best berries

Then there was the quest of figuring out his ‘signature’ dish for ‘The Great Gelfling – Grandma Bake Off’

I have the feeling Gelfling is taking this challenge VERY seriously

Today I Get To Choose

Helloooo Moo here, because Daddy is at college and it’s half term Grandma is looking after me ( but I’m in charge ) and this morning on our walk I got to choose where we went

Look 2 paths, one for me & one for Grandma

I saw two different crops one on each side of the lane, I was also allowed to run in front

What Do You Want For Tea ?

Ah the age-old question, when the tea time quandary reared its ugly head this evening Beloved came up with the perfect solution, “grab your coat” he said, where did we end up??

The cottage is only 30 miles from the coast

At Anderby Creek I couldn't believe there was just us and only a couple more folks on miles of beach

Oh look what an ideal getaway a little huddle of cottages nestled in the sand dunes

What a lovely way to spend a spring evening, which makes up for working all over the bank holiday

Oh I nearly forgot what did we have for tea ??
